JOB SUMMARY
St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church of Amarillo TX, a diverse and inclusive family of faith, seeks
a dedicated and talented organist/choirmaster to lead and enrich our worship through music. This role
involves stewardship of our 4 manual, 106 rank Aeolian-Skinner Opus 1024 pipe organ, offering
unparalleled opportunities for liturgical and concert performance. The ideal candidate will combine
musical excellence with strong leadership and interpersonal skills to guide the choirs and congregation
in vibrant and meaningful worship, grounded in the Anglican tradition.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Musical Leadership: Provide organ music for all worship services, direct and rehearse choirs (both
choral and hand bells), and plan music for special services.
• Liturgical Collaboration: Work closely with clergy to select music that enhances worship and aligns
with the liturgical calendar.
• Administrative Duties: Plan and schedule rehearsals, oversee the music program budget, maintain the
church music library and stewardship of the pipe organ.
• Outreach and Education: Foster a welcoming environment for volunteers, new choir members and
visiting musicians.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Proficient skill in organ performance, including hymn playing and improvisation.
• Proficient experience in choral direction, particularly within the Anglican or Episcopal tradition.
• Familiarity with the Book of Common Prayer, the Hymnal 1982, and other Episcopal liturgical
resources suggested.
• Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and volunteers.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Degree in music or equivalent professional experience; experience in Episcopal or liturgical worship
preferred.
• A heart for ministry and a commitment to participate in the spiritual mission of the parish, fostering
community and encouraging active participation in worship.
• Flexibility and creativity in planning and executing a robust music program.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships within the parish.
COMPENSATION
• Salary commensurate with experience and in alignment with guidelines of the American Guild of
Organists and Association of Anglican Musicians.
