Each week during our Stewardship season, we are featuring different parishioners to give us their testimony on Stewardship.
On Sunday, October 13, Shannon Bertrand shared with us her reflection on Stewardship:
“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. People do not light a lamp and put it under the bushel basket; rather, they put it on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” - Matthew 5:11-12
These words of Jesus according to the Gospel of Matthew, follow directly on the heels of the Beatitudes. Think about the irony of that. This teaching stands in stark contrast to societal expectations even today. While the world often glorifies wealth, power, and status, Jesus proclaims the least expected as blessed. And after doing so, he then gives those same people a critical job. To shine. To light up the world and give glory to God in heaven.
Jesus knew that stewardship is about so much more than financial giving and that those who seem to have less to give actually have much to offer because real stewardship is also about reflecting on the ways that we have been gifted and choosing to use those gifts for the benefit of God’s Kingdom and, in particular, this church we call home. So, while you and your family reflect on your much needed and much appreciated financial pledge, think also on those skills, tallents, and passions which God has granted you. Whether it's teaching, helping, hugging, cooking, or something else, how might you strengthen your financial pledge this year by also pledging in your heart to serve St. Andrew’s in the capacity especially given to you?
